Preparing for your cabinet refinishing project.

You’ve booked your cabinet refinishing or refacing project with us. What’s next? There’s minimal required by you, but working together, the project will run smoothly and be completed within about a week's time. 

  1. Point of contact. We follow our process tightly in the refinishing work we do but also in how we move a project through to completion. Brett is your point of contact on this project and can be reached by phone / text at 207.544.4457 any time or by email to brett@easternfinish.com. 

  2. Payment schedule. By now you have paid the deposit invoice after accepting the estimate. Thank you, kindly. The balance will be due upon completion of the project and you’re very happy with the outcome.

  3. Site preparation - We ask that all countertops be cleared and clean, floors swept / vacuumed and a mop. Please empty or move back items inside cabinets 3-4” and please choose a location for us to put your drawer boxes once we arrive to remove the faces. Artwork or anything hanging on walls or on your refrigerator should be taken down. Note: if your home has glass doors or open shelving where the interior of the boxes will be sprayed, please ensure they are emptied. Also, any concern of breakables - it's best to remove from the cabinets. 

  4. Color + Hardware - If you haven’t already, you want to start selecting color(s) candidates. We special order our coatings and can color match to any Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams or Farrow + Ball color code. Visit a local dealer like Maine Paint, Eldridge Lumber, or Ace Hardware or browse their websites to start exploring. We recommend bringing color swatch candidates home and placing them on your cabinets. We special order our Italian coatings and need to confirm and order from the lab no later than one week prior to the project start date. 

    If you intend to change hardware (knobs, pulls, etc.) start browsing styles now. We work closely with TopKnobs - they have over 5,000 styles to choose from in their 2022 + 2023 catalogs. If you wish, you can also visit your local lumber / hardware / kitchen centers to pick up samples locally.

  5. Care / Touch-up / Warranty - Caring for your cabinets is like caring for fine furniture. We recommend you stay clear of harsh solvents or chemicals and wash with warm water and if need be a small dab of Dawn dish soap. Nothing more. You don’t need much and it is recommended you periodically wipe down your kitchen cabinets to maintain their beautiful finish. We leave our customers with a small touchup kit in the event you need it. Using superior industrial wood coatings gives us and you the confidence that your coatings will be both beautiful and durable. Yet life does happen. In the event of any failure not related to use (dropping pan on kitchen door, damage, etc.) we provide a three year warranty for touch-ups not related to direct damage.  

Depending on the scope of work, average-sized kitchen refinishing projects (no custom cabinetry / carpentry or re-dooring) are completed in as little as a week.
